Hey y’all it has been a really long time since I have been on the blog… my my how much has changed! My house is up and running and I am getting all my rooms straight! BIG NEWS…
I got a puppy. I tried to adopt an older dog from the SPCA and we were not a good fit. I was really bummed because I though it was going to work out so well. I ended up having to take him back because he was untrained and biting 😦 My friend kept and eye out and a neighbor down the road was giving away puppies. Let me tell you, it is a HUGE life change. I love baby Bella, don’t get me wrong. It is just a bit different than I thought I would be. I can’t take her many places due to the fact that she does not have all her shots. It is so hot outside we can’t even run and frolic without a heat stroke. I think it would be easier if I had a significant other to help. I think Bella has a mild case of separation anxiety. It is hard to go about my daily schedule when I have a little one at my feet. AND yes i know people will say, well how do you think it is having a baby… AND I get it! It has just been really rough! I want to try my very best to do right by Bella and I hope that I am! Any tips are welcome tips 🙂
Yes… indeed it has been quite a while since my last post… life has been hectic! There was a family wedding, school started back, and I’m moving into a house…. It has been a lot of work on all three accounts and it is really the first moment I have had to really sit down and just breathe. Honestly, I missed posting on the blog. I think it helps with stress to just let it out and write a few words… over the next couple of days/weeks I hope to post about the house and all the fun changes we have made/or HAD to make in order to fix it up…
Anyway–off to the house to do some more work 🙂
Heres to being an adult!!!
So back in January I made the move out of my parents house and into my own apartment. Let me tell you that it is the poor life.. but it is nice. I have started cooking a lot of my own food now and have started to become aware of what I need and don’t need. The needs heavily outweigh the wants now! Some of the previous posts I have posted were prepping things for moving. I redid my old magnetic board to become a magnetic make-up board. I have successfully reupholstered chairs for a dining room table. I have made some cute kitchen decorations. The following pictures are some decor I have in the apartment. So much more to put up but it’s been a whirlwind 4 months here!
bed spread i bought from Target… love the colors!

… and by “the people” I mean the students.
This was the first year we decided to do a large trip to Washington DC with our students. We learn a lot about US history: Revolutionary War, Civil War, Westward Expansion, and Abe Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth! We read a book called “Chasing Lincoln’s Killer” by James L. Swanson. It is a book about the 12-day manhunt for John Wilkes Booth after he assassinates Abe. The kids really liked the book and it is one of my favorites. Here is an upload of pics from the trip!

We layed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Of course the day after we were tired and needed food!!
As March rolled around this year, I was a little depressed! I was used to taking a trip around this time and had not planned one due to lack of cash… aka the poor life since I moved out! Then my friend said hey… let’s go to NOLA!!! I was all on board for it! We spent a few months planning and then we were off! We stopped in Atlanta for a break and went to The World of Coca Cola as well! Such a fantastic trip, I have to go again! We went after Mardi Gras and before St. Patricks day so it was still festive and the party was poppin! Now for some pictures 🙂
The World of Coca Cola was awesome! Took us through a tour of the factory and had a lot of historical artifacts from the past years and we even got to taste some of the flavors from other countries!
Then we were off to New Orleans!
Day 1: We took a boat ride and visited the Swamp! Then we drove to Oak Alley Plantation! Such a pretty place and has been used in a quite a few movies as well!
Day 2: Into NOLA we went for a day of exploring and a night of ghosts. We took a Ghost tour and learned quite a bit about the gruesome history of New Orleans! Our Ghost Tour guide was awesome and he fully indulged our American Horror Story: Coven and The Originals pleasures. So many ghost stories and so little space to share them with you!
Day 3: Back into New Orleans for a dinner Jazz Boat tour and final sight seeing!
This trip was awesome and I wish I could share a ton more with you!! Hope you liked them 🙂
I’ll leave you with a pic of Marie Lavaeu’s (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Laveau) grave!
Back again… Haha just kidding… no Slim Shady here 🙂
It has been such a long time! So much as happened in the past five months! I have been successfully settling into the new apartment, traveled to New Orleans, and have been making some big girl decisions (more on that later)!
Just wanted to check in and start back blogging! The next few posts will be about the new apartment and the New Orleans trip!
Afternoon peeps! So I have another completed DIY project thanks to Pinterest. I found this magnetic make-up board (http://www.shelterness.com/diy-make-up-magnet-board/) where I can house my make-up off the sink area and use that space for something else.
I had an old magnetic calendar that I wasn’t going to be using anymore. I got some extra supplies and my Mod Podge ready for some crafting action.
I found the little containers in the $1 aisle at Target. The wrapping paper is from Target as well. I took my calendar out of the frame and wrapped that in the brown colored wrapping paper. I did use Mod Podge at first, but I didn’t like how it was bubbling the paper. So after taking it off, I ended up using tape for the smooth effect. I did use Mod Podge on the containers so that they didn’t say quotes about filing papers! I ended up having to use spray paint on the frame of the calendar for a smooth, finished look. It was too hard to Mod Podge that sucker!
The final product, minus the frame (since it’s still wet)…
What do ya think??
Hey Bleeps (aka bloggy peeps… nothing mean or derogotory meant)… start off the post with a cute picture! I hope you all had a safe and wonderful time ringing in the New Year! I sure did… So did Perdita!
Now… on to the post… Downsizing… as in cleaning! I am moving out in a week. Talk about getting things together and figuring out what to take and what not to take. My whole life is in my room. (Yes I know it’s messy… remember I am packing to move!)
You see, for the past four years, I have been living in my parent’s house. NOT because I am a bum, or lazy, or any of those other excuses that people come up with or think of when you tell them you still live with your parents as a 24 year old. My parents were gracious enough to LET me stay at home to save up money and get my career started. I made the decision to look for an apartment. I had been talking about maybe getting a town home… but I’m just not at the point in my life where I want a lease or a mortgage (p.s. NOT knocking on anyone that is 24 and has a house… just not for me right now!). The whole apartment came about rather quickly– as in the past two months. At this point in my life, I think it is the right move for me!
Soooo… anyway– back to the downsizing! Everything I own is in my room. This past week, being on break, I have been starting to clean my room and pack up my things to move. There is clothes in the back of my closet that I can’t wear anymore and “stuff” in my room that hasn’t seen the light of day in years. I’m actually glad for this move, it has given me the chance to do some “real” cleaning. I have been able to find pictures and random things from moments long gone and do a little reminiscing.
The thing that I find kind of funny though: I’m “downsizing” my belongings to upgrade to a whole apartment for myself!
Anyway– just some ranting and raving! Will update with the move-in and post about how the DIY projects (see older posts) look in the new place 🙂
The year of 2013 brought a lot of happiness and new adventures.
There was also a lot of moments that were saddening…please remember all the people that lost their lives, and all of the moments that happened this year.
For me 2013 held the following:
- I was able to take another big trip. I went to Ireland and was able to visit my cousins and their baby. It really is the Emerald Island! If you want to recap my trip, look at the older posts!
- I was able to visit my friends and family in NJ and NY.
- My mom became a citizen.. It was a big moment for the whole family!
- I started my 3rd year of teaching
- I walked in two more 5ks that benefitted local causes.
What does 2014 hold?
- A big move.. into my first apartment 🙂
- My 4th year of teaching
- Maybe another trip!
What does your new year hold?
I posted a little while ago about a quote I found on Pinterest and how I made it my own! I have not mounted it up yet, but I have put my pictures together and layed out how I want it to look. The quote will be there center piece of the whole thing. Pictures of my travels will go around the quote… talk about a conversation starter 🙂 I have a couple more pictures to add, but I’m liking where it is at right now! Can’t wait to continue my travels and adding pictures to my wall!
